Revised Forecast for Japan’s Motor Vehicle Demand in Fiscal Year 2016

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has revised its “Forecast for Japan’s Motor Vehicle Demand in Fiscal Year 2016” released in March 2016. JAMA’s initial demand forecast necessitated revision as a result, primarily, of the Japanese government’s decision to postpone to October 2019 an increase in the national consumption tax from the current 8% rate to 10%. The figures in JAMA’s initial forecast were premised on the assumption that the consumption tax hike would take effect on April 1, 2017, as originally scheduled.
